Assessment of Potential Sites for the Composting of Food and Yard Waste

Due to the closure of the existing food waste composting site by DEP regulators, DSM was recently hired to propose new composting approaches and to assess 10 potential locations, both on and off campus, so to re-establish a composting facility capable of composting all food and yard waste generated on campus. An additional task was to ascertain which sites could also support a transfer station for the removal of non-recovered waste materials generated on campus. A necessary component of the site assessment was to model both odor and noise impacts from the siting of the recommended composting and transfer methodologies.
