Solid Waste Disposal Technical Assistance

Working under a U.S. AID project for Research Triangle, Institute, George Murray was asked to provide technical assistance to various cities and villages in Poland for solid waste disposal problems experienced in various regions. Assistance involved two day visits to each region, an inspection of the current landfill being used, meetings with local and regional representatives to discuss the situation and a report for each of the landfills visited with recommendations for improving or solving the particular disposal problems.

Presentations were given to environmental educators at various educational institutions with question and answer periods afterward.

A landfill Operation and Management Plan was developed jointly by DSM and the University of Wisconsin and used by municipalities throughout Poland for guidance in operating their disposal facilities.
