International City/County Management Association Gaborone, Botswana

DSM staff served as the Project Team Leader for the International City Managers Association to design and conduct a comprehensive survey of current waste generation and an analysis of waste composition in Gaborone. DSM spent three months in Botswana, Africa assessing the existing waste management system and developing a new system to collect, manage, divert and dispose of solid waste in this rapidly growing capital city.

Subsequent to this project, DSM was retained to assist the Gaborone City Council in converting a portion of the City to private collection of solid waste. DSM assisted the Gaborone City Council with preparation of a comprehensive tender for privatization and then returned to Gaborone to evaluate the tenders and negotiate a three-year contract. DSM also conducted a training program for city officials on contract negotiation and management.
