Druid Cooperative
Czech Republic

DSM partnered with another small firm in Vermont to prepare a feasibility study for evaluating the use of waste wood and manures in a combined heat and power project. The client, DRUID As. is a large cooperative that owns chicken, swine, dairy, grain, and wood products companies in the Southwest of the Czech Republic. Druid obtained a grant from the United States Trade and Development Agency to retain consultants to perform the study. The final recommendation included the use of swine manures and grasses in an anaerobic digester to generate methane gas. The gas is then used to produce electricity and hot water for use at the swine farm and to sell excess electricity to the electric utility.
