Waste Composition Analysis

DSM completed the first ever waste composition study for the State of Vermont. The study included statistically valid sampling of residential wastes delivered to the Waste USA landfill in northern Vermont, and the WSI/Chittenden District transfer station in Burlington, Vermont. In addition, DSM conducted sampling of the composition of selected commercial generators of wastes and visual analysis of the composition of C & D wastes delivered to the landfill/transfer station. The purpose of the project was to provide information on what materials remain in the waste stream that could be targeted for future waste reduction and recycling programs.

Recycling Rate Analysis

DSM has completed comprehensive analyses of Vermont's recycling rates two times over the past ten years. Vermont then uses these rate analyses to adjust and annually update their recycling rate calculations.

Bottle Bill Redemption Costs

DSM completed a comprehensive analysis of the cost to distributors, redemption centers and consumers associated with redeeming beverage containers under Vermont's Bottle Bill Redemption Law.

Mercury Switch Training for Auto Salvage Yards

DSM assisted the DEC with an outreach and training program to automobile dismantlers throughout Vermont. Each dismantler/salvage yard was visited to inform them of the switch removal law and to assist them with identification, removal techniques, and proper disposal of the switches.
