Development of Recycling and Waste Management Plan for Ski Area and Resort Master Plan Expansion

DSM Environmental Services was contracted by Stratton Mountain to develop a recycling and solid waste management plan to serve the entire resort complex as part of the Master Plan expansion. The plan required estimating and analyzing waste generation and composition for the following operations that were part of the corporation and master plan expansion: a ski area and two base lodges; 30 retail shops; restaurants and night clubs; a sports center, golf club and cross country ski center; a small grocery store; administrative offices; and over 1200 residential units.

DSM developed a recycling and waste diversion plan for the complex based on the existing system of waste management. The plan included analyzing C&D waste generation resulting from the expansion and developing recommendations for reducing C&D waste.

DSM was later contracted to assess the existing recycling and waste management system and assist in the implementation of a new, Resort-wide recycling system. This included development of a commingled recycling collection system, selection of containers for use by the public on the grounds throughout the Resort and the development of an education program for Resort staff and year round visitors.
