In-Vessel Food Waste and Bio-Solids Composting Facility
Dartmouth College

DSM was the managing partner of this multi-year project entailing planning, permitting, construction oversight and shakeout facility management of the establishment of the first in-vessel facility in New Hampshire to compost food waste and biosolids as two separate streams within the same facility. The facility was designed to compost 25 tons per day of the targeted organics streams and combine this with bulking agents of wood chips, non-recycled paper and yard waste. The technology was a forced aerated, agitated bay composting methodology. DSM designed and constructed an in-ground biofilter to treat off-gasses to minimize odors leaving the plant. Multi-grades of finish compost products were created and marketed locally. Today the facility is operated by Dartmouth College.
